Daily Diary - 26th November, 2007

Return to our daily diary

When are we going to stop this profane guise of heroism and admit what the intervention in the NT really is - a chance to blame the victims again for their own injustices rather than act responsibly.

Adelle Barry, Vic, 26 November 2007

Indigenous Australians deserve to care for themselves- in their own way.

Kay Pavlou, NSW, 26 November 2007

Government must support communities in solving their problems on their own terms.

Andrew Cuffley, SA, 26 November 2007

I endorse "Women for Wik" wholeheartedly.

Wilma Carolan, SA, 26 November 2007

The newly elected Federal Labor Government cannot afford to merely tinker with the Emergency Response Legislation it must be abolished. Nothing good comes from bad law no matter how well intentioned. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples know this heart and soul, its been tried before.

It is vitally important the newly elected Rudd Government must now in good faith immediately repeal the NT Emergency Response Legislation. The Federal Government at the earliest opportunity must sit down and enter into open and frank dialogue with Aboriginal People in their communities and through consultation negotiation and having reached consensus, support change in those Aboriginal communities so affected through community leadership and empowerment and not through legislated dispossession and dependency.

Lets us hold up the Little Children Are Sacred report as a first step in ensuring the safety, stability and future not only for the children and their families of the Northern Territory, but for all children everywhere. Prime Minister Rudd Abolish the NT Emergency Response Legislation.

Karranjal John Hartley, SA, 26 November 2007
