Daily Diary - 13th November, 2007

Return to our daily diary

I am ashamed of the current Federal Government's sly and deceptive strategies to gain back indigenous land for mining, under the guise of "helping" the children in NT communities.

Lin Oke, Vic. 13th October 2007

With support for your monitoring the Federal Intervention in NT. I will write to Mal Brough to consult with communities properly and amend or even suspend their actions to suit the people. The way it was done seems no better than stealing the children. I am sorry for our arrogant and ignorant government.

Allan Nield, S.A., 13th October 2007

I have always believed that education is the way to self empowerment. How symbolic that the Howard Govt should erect a toilet rather than a school. the NT needs armies of teachers, nurses, doctors, with books and prescriptions, not an army with guns.

Sharon Skinner, N.S.W., 13th October 2007

Go girls! Your strength and determination is always needed but especially so in times when human rights are so visibly under threat.

Louise Taylor, Vic. 13th October 2007

As this jack boot driven intervention rolls relentlessy onward my greatest fear is that the situation at Numbulwar wil be repeated over and over again. The reaction from the perptrators of this offensive desecration was so typical of a bunch of beurocrats with no sensitivety and precious little understanding of cultural concerns. The so called Minister should immediately consult with ALL indigenous people(something that he has until now been reluctant to do), to ensure that this desecration never occurs again. This incident shows to all how fatally flawed the intervention is.No respect,no consultation and a total disregard for culture.I am outraged that the Govt. of this country has ridden roughshod over 40,000 years of culture in an effort to be re-elected, and is quite prepared to destroy the dignity of the original owners of this country for political kudos.

Robynne, N.S.W., 13th October 2007

Thank you for your vision and persistence. I honour you. You show us that you never give up.
